In keeping with the return to brooches and pins as a contemporary adornment, particularly worn as an accent on scarves and in Birkin style, we have made a unique sea glass scarf or knitwear pin. The silver pin has a locking mechanism to make iIt safe to thread a chain through and wear as a necklace.
Handmade sustainable featuring recycled sterling silver and hand collected deep sea foam sea glass.
Coral and barnacles surround the rock pool and basalt where the Selkie waits to return to the sea, and her true self.
Patina on the silver gives a dark ethereal feel and highlight the organic texture.
In Celtic and Norse mythology, selkies or selkie folk meaning 'seal folk' are mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. They are found in folktales and mythology originating from the Northern Isles of Scotland.
Dimensions approx 25 x 40mm. Due to the pin itself also being sterling silver, the brooch is only suitable for scarves, knitwear and open weave fabrics. Heavy wool coats etc are too dense and will bend a silver pin (these pins are usually made from stainless steel).
This item requires hallmarking so please allow 2 weeks from ordering.
